Specular Image on Agamben the Heideggerian.
[Agamben] takes the thought of Martin Heidegger’s Ereignis as the place to begin to think the end of history and politics.
Ereignis is usually translated simply as an event, but this of course doesn’t actually fit the meaning Heidegger or Agamben gives to this word. One Heidegger scholar Thomas Sheehan writes, “the event that brings disclosive comportment and disclosible entities together into their asymptotic “own”, that is, into the openness of disclosure”. It also is a word that has ties with his word augenblick which means a moment of time, or a blinking of an eye that can be connected to a split second where all things fold in upon itself.
