Richard Polt's The Emergency of Being is coming out in paperback, with a new preface.
Since the publication of The Emergency of Being, Heidegger’s text has been translated anew by Richard Rojcewicz and Daniela Vallega-Neu. This version is considerably more reasonable and reliable than the first translation. Rojcewicz and Vallega-Neu’s terminology overlaps to some extent with my choices in this book. They translate das Seyn as “beyng”; this archaic English spelling is justifiable, although to my eyes it looks excessively strange. They render das Ereignis simply as “the event”—a good choice, in my opinion, although as Heidegger himself indicates, no translation of this guiding word of his thought is fully satisfactory. On the whole, there is no doubt that the Rojcewicz and Vallega-Neu translation is the better choice for the anglophone reader.
